Are you thinking about offering kindergarten readiness programming at your library? Kindergarten Gear Up is designed to help both children and caregivers prepare for kindergarten. It is especially targeted towards families whose children have not attended preschool.

Think, Make, Try® is a three-step engineering design process designed for young learners ages 3-8 years. It builds upon children’s natural curiosity and supports creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. 

The Day By Day Ohio Family Literacy Calendar provides young children and their caring adults a song, video, activities, and book suggestions for every day of the year. Each day, visitors to DayByDayOH.org will see a new set of activities for today's date.

A service of the State Library of Ohio in collaboration with Ohio Ready to Read, Day By Day Ohio supports early literacy skills, helps young children get ready for school, and is available 24/7.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Ohio provides young children a free book every month from birth to age five. Families in any Ohio county may enroll their young children in this program as early as birth. This opportunity is FREE for families.

Ohio is home to hundreds of notable authors, past and present. Jacqueline Woodson, Denise Fleming, Will Hillenbrand, Loren Long, Oge Mora, Andrea Wang, Cynthia Rylant, Drew Daywalt, Adam Rex, Daniel Kirk, Angela Johnson, David Catrow, and Tim Bowers are among the many picture book authors and illustrators who live in Ohio or have Ohio roots.

Library consultant Pamela Martin-Diaz has created a set of outlines for early literacy stations based on Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) books and the Five Early Literacy Practices from Every Child Ready to Read®.

Jenny Mei Is Sad by Tracy Subisak (Little, Brown Young Readers, 2021) has been named the seventh annual Floyd’s Pick Book Award winner, in memory of children’s literature expert, advocate, and librarian Floyd Dickman.

Storytime 101: Storytime for Beginners is a 5-hour self-paced tutorial developed by the Idaho Commission for Libraries. This interactive course covers basic skills such as preparing for storytime, reading books out loud, using props and music, and engaging adults and children. It is free for anyone to take, but you must have (or create) a Niche Academy account before taking the course.
