Kindergarten Gear Up
Are you thinking about offering kindergarten readiness programming at your library? Kindergarten Gear Up is designed to help both children and caregivers prepare for kindergarten. It is especially targeted towards families whose children have not attended preschool.
Kindergarten Gear Up is a series of ten one-hour sessions that can be scheduled once a week for ten weeks, or twice a week for five weeks. There are separate activities for children and caregivers, so successful implementation requires two programming spaces and at least 2-3 staff members, depending on the size of your group.
All the Kindergarten Gear Up content is freely available for any library to adopt into its programming. Content includes detailed lesson plans, a library of activities, booklists, caregiver handouts and discussion questions (in English and Spanish), posters, flyers, activity sheets, and more, all developed by the San Diego County Library.
Please note that this is a time-intensive program series; if you maintain a full program calendar, you will probably want to replace a current program rather than add Kindergarten Gear Up on top.
